writer . editor . author

 culinary judge

The award winning author of three editions of Capital Dining, a Guide to the Best Restaurants in the National Capital Region, Anne has written about restaurants in particular and food and travel in general, for a bunch of papers and magazines and for this blog. She contributes regularly to Ottawa Magazine, Taste & Travel Magazine, Harry Magazine, has written about Ottawa’s “power restaurants” for Macleans Magazine, and its Valley restaurants for CBC Radio.

Her latest book, Ottawa Cooks, was published in 2016 and shortlisted for the 2017 Taste Canada cookbook awards.

Anne has been a restaurant critic since 1988, starting with reviews for Air Canada’s enRoute Magazine. For twenty years, from 1993 to 2013, she wrote a weekly restaurant column for the Ottawa Citizen. She then moved to Ottawa Magazine to be its restaurant critic for five years. She is senior judge with Gold Medal Plates and a well fed member of the national judging team for the Canadian Culinary Championships.

In 2013, Anne won a Gold Award from the Ontario Hostelry Institute for “Outstanding contributions to the hospitality, culinary and food industry within the printed world and the electronic media.”

Please pay attention to the date of the restaurant review posted when using this site as a guide. As we well know, the restaurant scene is in constant flux. That the facts will change in some measure, at some point, is a fact. I’ve tried, where appropriate, to indicate key changes (CLOSED signs, say; or “chef has moved on” sorts of warnings.) And, as ever, I welcome your thoughts on anything at all. Contact me through the contact link or to [email protected]
