In Taste & Travel Magazine‘s spring 2015 issue, please find a piece I wrote on Mazatlan. Always looking for a smidge of Canadian content in my travels, this one has a connection to Western Canada’s oldest craft distillery. Okanagan Spirits transforms BC orchard fruit into stunning liqueurs and spirits. Here’s the story: a bunch of Canadian snowbirds retired to Mazatlan sent a bag of mangoes to Okanagan Spirits. Would the master distiller kindly could put the Sinaloan fruit through its paces in his copper pot still. It worked, and Onilikan was born. I bought a second suitcase to handle the mango liqueurs and aged blue agave Spirit I brought home. A wee nip does wonders on a nippy Canadian night. (Read story by clicking on cover image.)
