Exit El-Tawel, Welcome LaSalle: GMP 2014 has new competitor

Late last week, Restaurant E18hteen chef Walid El-Tawel wrote a gracious note to Gold Medal Plates organizers, expressing regret that he had to bow out of this year’s competition. He has accepted a position at a yet-to-open Toronto restaurant. He will be leaving Ottawa to take that challenge on later this month and we wish him great success with it.

To fill the vacancy, we went to our next chef on the list, and I’m delighted to announce that Stephen La Salle of The Albion Rooms in the Novotel Hotel has accepted the invitation to duke it out on November 17th, when the Ottawa Convention Centre will host the 2014 Ottawa-Gatineau Gold Medal Plates.

The 2014 roster now looks like this:

Katie Brown Ardington, Beckta Dining and Wine

Ryan Edwards, Taylor’s Genuine Food & Wine Bar

Patrick Garland, Absinthe Café

Stephen La Salle, The Albion Rooms

Pierre Lortie, Restaurant Le Baccara

John Morris, National Arts Centre

Kyle Mortimer-Proulx, ZenKitchen

Michael Radford, The Whalesbone Oyster House

Kyrn Stein, Social

Steve Wall, Supply and Demand
