Gold Medal Plates

November 22nd promises to be a delicious date when ten of Ottawa-Gatineau’s most creative and accomplished chefs square off at the culinary competition of the Gold Medal Plates, held at the Hilton Lac Leamy. Gold Medal Plates is a celebration of Canadian excellence in food, wine, and athletic achievement and is held in eight cities across Canada. It pairs the premier chefs in each city with Canadian Olympic and Paralympic athletes, and with Canadian wineries, in a competition to crown a gold, silver and bronze medal culinary team in each town, and subsequently nation-wide. I am delighted to be a judge at this event.

The Ottawa-Gatineau chefs competing this year include:

  • Ben Baird – The Urban Pear
  • Matthew Carmichael – Restaurant 18
  • Chris Deraiche – The Wellington Gastropub
  • Steve Mitton – Social
  • Michael Moffatt – Beckta Dining and Wine
  • Richard Nigro – Juniper
  • Charles Part – Les Fougères
  • Rene Rodriguez – Luxe Bistro
  • Serge Rourre – Le Baccara (Lac-Leamy)
  • John Taylor – Domus Café
  • Hector Diaz – Hilton Lac Leamy, host chef
  • Michael Blackie – Perspectives, winner of 2006 GMP, member of the judging panel
