Providenciales, Turks and Caicos and its Lit’l Chefs Program
Before the fall issue comes out, ahem, I thought it was high time I told you about the lovely Summer issue of Taste & Travel Magazine. It includes Food Day Canada’s brilliant Anita Stewart‘s piece on some of Canada’s best restaurants (including Chez Edgar, Absinthe Cafe, Soif, The Wellington Gastropub, among others.) I wrote a piece for this issue (click on the image below) with a strong Canadian content as well. Only in a warmer clime in a place many have lobbied to make Canadian!
On a trip to Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands, I followed the ‘Lit’l Chefs Program’ at the Caribbean Food and Wine Festival. Look for my interview with Canadian superstar chef Lauren Callighen (“I haven’t seen a snowflake in ten years.”) Newfoundland-born, Ottawa-trained (including Tulips and Maple Catering) she’s a prime reason these TCI kids are learning to cook, and find jobs on Caribbean islands once dominated by the salt industry. And now islands where tourism is the backbone of the economy.
