Welcome to Capital Dining 2008, the product of a well-used gallbladder. Fully 70 of the 150-plus restaurants in this guide are new since Capital Dining was first published in 2004, and dozens more have changed so significantly, or are dearly departed, that you need to toss the first book in the recycling bin… just as soon as you’ve bought this one. It’s my hope that you stuff it in the glove compartment, in your purse, in your briefcase… that you keep it handy and that it proves useful for every possible occasion, from grabbing a quick bite with friends before the show, to celebrating big time with all the bells and whistles and silver domes. This is your guide to eating well right across Canada’s Capital Region.
November 22nd promises to be a delicious date when ten of Ottawa-Gatineau’s most creative and accomplished chefs square off at the culinary competition of the Gold Medal Plates, held at the Hilton Lac Leamy. Gold Medal Plates is a celebration of Canadian excellence in food, wine, and athletic achievement and is held in eight cities across Canada. It pairs the premier chefs in each city with Canadian Olympic and Paralympic athletes, and with Canadian wineries, in a competition to crown a gold, silver and bronze medal culinary team in each town, and subsequently nation-wide. I am delighted to be a judge at this event. www.goldmedalplates.com
